Considering the ongoing outbreak of measles in the South Plains and Pan Handle regions of Texas as well as the recent March 2025 exposure case at Great Wolf Lodge and Grapevine Mills Mall in Grapevine, TX; West Plano Pediatrics is taking additional preventative measures.
West Plano Pediatrics is offering OPTIONAL early intervention/vaccination to the following age groups:
Ages 6 months to 1 year: may receive an additional early dose before their one year birthday. Note- your child will still need 2 additional doses at age 1yr and age 4yrs to complete the series. If you would like your child to receive an early dose of MMR, please call 972-608-0774 or MyChart us to schedule. Some insurance companies may not cover this additional dose, so you will be charged $150 initially and subsequently refunded if your plan covers the additional MMR vaccine.
Age 12 months: Your child will receive their regularly scheduled MMR vaccine at their 12 month checkup. If your child is due for their one year checkup, please call 972-608-0774 or MyChart us to schedule.
Ages 13months – 3 years: Your child may receive their 2nd dose of MMR vaccine if it has been greater than or equal to 30 days from their 1st dose. If you want your child to receive their second dose early (i.e. before the 4 yr checkup) please call 972-608-0774 or MyChart us to schedule.
Age 4 yrs and up: We normally offer/administer the 2nd dose of MMR at the 4 yr well child exam. If your child is due for their 4 yr checkup, please call 972-608-0774 or MyChart us to schedule.
Finally, if your child is already scheduled to come in for their 6mo, 9mo, 12mo, 15mo, 18mo, 2yr, 3yr or 4yr checkup, we will be discussing MMR vaccine recommendations during your visit. There is no need to call the office ahead of time.
West Plano Pediatrics continues to get updates about this outbreak from the Texas Department of Health & Human Services. If, at some point, the recommendations for vaccination changes for our area, we will send another MyChart blast and update our social media pages and website.
