Prior to international travel we recommend that you visit the Center for Disease Control (CDC) website. This website contains helpful information regarding required vaccines, travel warnings and travel precautions/advisories.
1) Click on www.cdc.gov
2) Then click on “Traveler’s Health”
3) Then click on Destinations and select the country you will be visiting.
Most commonly your child may require Malaria prophylaxis (medication taken prior and during travel to prevent Malaria a disease caused by mosquitoes), Hepatitis A vaccination (protects against liver disease) and possibly Typhoid vaccination (protects against fever and severe diarrhea).
West Plano Pediatrics is happy to provide this service for our patients. We ask that you notify us at least 2-3 months in advance of your travel plans in order to ensure that your child receives the appropriate vaccinations and medications in a timely fashion. Depending upon your destination, there may be specific vaccines i.e. Yellow Fever, which we are unable to provide. In such cases you will be referred to one of the travel medicine clinics listed below, or you may contact them directly.
